Letters from the Kids

Dear Mommy and Daddy,

Just wanted to let you know I'm doing just fine and enjoying it here in sunny California.

My new Human Mommy is so impressed with how smart I am. (That's cause I take after you, Mommy) She says 'I'm real playful' as well. I'm having so much fun!! Here's some pics of me in my new backyard.

Sorry this is so short but I gotta go play with Human Mommy's grand daughter. She's so much fun!

Tail Wags and Kisses,
Cheyanne (Vail)

Hi Mommy,

Just letting you know I'm doing okay here. The first night I was pretty scared so my new Human Mommy slept with me on a big dog bed in the kitchen, I think she snores more than Boreas.... or maybe that was the cat.
Anyways, I'm settling in. I went on my first walk and to my first party last night. Everyone said I was beautiful but I think I'm handsome, after all I am a boy. I am learning to play fetch, but sometimes I get distracted and forget to bring the ball all the way back, the backyard is just so interesting. My new cat doesn't like me much, she just hisses when I try to go up to give kisses but I'm working on it.

Nights are still kinda tough, I'm sure if I yell for my new Human Mommy and Daddy long enough they will get up and play with me but so far they just seem to want me to sleep at night, don't they know that is what doggie naps are for? Anyways, I am having lots of fun and getting lots of attention, I almost have them trained when to let me outside, they are kinda slow but I'm give them lots of puppy kisses if they get it right.

Look at the picture with all my new toys, I have to make sure they are all beside me before I take a nap, so I go collect them and lay on them, otherwise the cat or Human Daddy may get them. Happy Thanksgiving.
Love, Wolf

Letter from Loveland

Dear Mommy and Daddy,

I wanted to send you a couple of pictures that my new Human Mommy took of me at her work. She sometimes has Human Daddy leave me at her office. It's so fun when I get to do that 'cause I get to see lots of people and they are all so friendly! And they pet me and talk to me. And then she takes me to see her Mommy in this fun place where the chairs have wheels. (Boreas would have a lot of fun pulling one of those around!)
Human Mommy tells me that as long as I keep doing good with my 'eteekut' lessons that I can go places with her and Human Daddy. I even get to go to church with Human Mommy and Daddy. Human Mommy gets up in front of all the people when we go to church and talks to them. She even used me and my training as a 'zample' one time in her talk.
I feel so lucky to have two Human parents that love me like they do! Human Daddy takes me places when Human Mommy is at work. It's so fun 'cause we get to see a lot of countryside and I get to meet a lot of people. (And Human Daddy spoils me when Human Mommy isn't around.)
Their training is coming along okay. But you were right Mommy, Humans always want to walk by your side. How can I blaze a trail for them if I am walking by their side? Hhhmmm... we'll have to continue working on that.
I gotta go, Human Mommy says it's bedtime and I have to get off the 'puter. Tell everyone I said 'Hi'. I'll write again when I get the chance.

Luv Yu Guys!
Loveland

Lessons to Live By...

With all but two of the kids now in their new forever homes (and Wolf Creek will be leaving us soon), we won't be posting every day. Once all the kids learn how to use their new Human Mommy and Human Daddy's 'puters, they will be sending more updates and photos and we will pass those along when we get them. And we have to keep you updated on 'Little' Boreas. So this is not a goodbye, but just a 'see you later'.

Kenosha and I would like to leave you with some Lessons to Live By. They have always worked for the two of us. Elvira

1. Enjoy the simple pleasures of a Walk.
2. Follow your instincts.
3. Never, ever underestimate the joy of a belly rub.
4. Be faithful and loyal.
5. Always drink plenty of water.
6. Sometimes it is best to just sit close and listen.
7. Be quick to forgive.
8. Avoid biting when a growl will do.
9. Keep digging until you find what you want.
10. Run and play every day.
11.Accept all of life's treats with gratitude.
12. Life is short, get petted often.
13. Love unconditionally.

Notice to Pets

With the cooler, rainy weather now here, CAT and the rest of the Clowder have been staying inside more and more. Human Mommy gets aggravated with their shenanigans, so she posted a notice of the 'fidge' for all of us to see (especially CAT and his friends). Kenosha

NOTICE TO MY PETS (and visitors)

Dear Dogs and Cats:

1. The dishes with the paw prints are yours and contain your food. The other dishes are mine and contain my food. Please note, placing a paw print in the middle of my plate and food does not stake a claim for it becoming your food and your dish (nor do I find that aesthetically pleasing in the slightest).

2. The stairway was not designed by NASCAR and is not a racetrack. Beating me to the bottom is not the object. Tripping me doesn't help, because I fall faster than you can run.

3. I cannot buy anything bigger than a king- sized bed. I am very sorry about this. Do not think I will continue sleeping on the couch to ensure your comfort. Dogs and cats can actually curl up in a ball when they sleep. It is not necessary to sleep perpendicular to each other stretched out to the fullest extent possible. I also know that sticking tails straight out and having tongues hanging out the other end to maximize space is nothing but sarcasm.

4. For the last time, there is no secret exit from the bathroom. If by some miracle I beat you there and manage to get the door shut, it is not necessary to claw, whine, meow, try to turn the knob or get your paw under the edge and try to pull the door open. I must exit through the same door I entered. Also, I have been using the bathroom for years - canine or feline attendance is not required.

5. The proper order is kiss me, then go smell the other dog or cat's butt. I cannot stress this enough!

To pacify you, my dear pets, I have posted the following message on our
front door:

To All Non-Pet Owners Who Visit & Like to Complain About Our Pets:
1. They live here. You don't.
2. If you don't want their hair on your clothes, stay off the furniture. That's why they call it
``fur``niture.
3. I like my pets a lot better than I like most people.
4. To you, they are an animal. To me, he/she is an adopted son/daughter who is short, hairy, walks on all fours and doesn't speak very clearly.

Monday's News

I had such an exciting weekend!! I got to meet my new Human Mommy and Human Daddy! Their names are Arleigh and Casey. But I won't be going to live with them till the end of the month 'cause Arleigh is becoming a Doctor (that's a Human Vet) and she has to take a test. And she said that if I was around she wouldn't get any studyin' done for her test. (probably 'cause I'm so cute!) She knows how to give good belly rubs!

And she told me about the big backyard I would have to play in and they even have a CAT! And she told that they have a Pool for me to splash in during the summer. (I think that's like a Big Mud Puddle) Oh, it's going to be so much fun !!!! I can hardly wait !!! Wolf Creek

Friday's Updates

And a couple more pictures of Hoosier (Diesel).

And here's Boreas doing his Yoda imitation (again). Elvira

Car Rides

Human Mommy has been taking Boreas and me for car rides along with Mommy and Daddy. It's SO MUCH FUN! Mommy and Daddy get irritated with us though, when we're in the car. Boreas and I get so excited we run from side to side looking out the windows asking, "Are we there yet?" "Where are we going?" "Who are we going to see?" "Are we there yet?" "How come we're stopped?" "Look at the thing out there!" "Are we there yet?"

Sometimes we just go for a ride, sometimes we go into town and Human Mommy gets things like dog food (yum!) and sometimes we go see Human Daddy at lunch. But no matter where we go, it's always fun! ('Cept maybe the Vet...) Wolf Creek

CAT's Concoction

In all fairness to CAT and the other members of the clowder, I am going to share CAT's favorite fishy treat.

2 (3.75 oz.) cans sardines in oil (do not drain)
2/3 cp rice, cooked
1 can cat food - use your feline's favorite flavor
1/4 cp dried parsley
1/4 tspn bouillon powder
1/8 tspn herbal poultry seasoning
pinch of dried catnip

Combine the ingredients and mix well. Shape into small marble size balls and let dry for a couple of hours. Store in the refrigerator or freeze and take out as needed.

Favorite Dog Treats

I thought I would share a recipe for one of Kenosha's and Elvira's Favorite Dog Treats.

2 1/2 cp whole wheat flour
1/2 cp dry milk powder
1 tspn beef bouillon
1/2 tspn celery salt
1 cp cooked ground pork, beef, or chicken
1 cp grated carrot
1 tblspn dried parsley
1 tspn garlic powder
6 tblspn shortening
1 egg
1/2 cp cold water

Preheat oven to 350 deg. Spray cookie sheet with cooking oil.
Combine all dry ingredients. Melt shortening and add to dry mix. Gradually add meat, egg, and water, mixing well after each addition. Mixture should now form a stiff ball of dough.
On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough out to 1/4 inch in thickness. Cut out using a cookie cutter or simply cut into squares with a knife. Place on cookie sheet about 2 inches apart.
Bake for 25 - 30 minutes, until the bottoms of the cookies are browned. All ow cookies to set for a few minutes on the cookie sheet before removing to a wire rack to cool. Makes about 36-40.

And Now Two...

Everyone arrived safe and sound on Saturday. From what I heard, no one liked flying. But everyone seems to have settled into their new homes okay. Poncha (Aeneas) made new friends at the Park. And Hoosier (Diesel) has a new buddy, BeeBee the Border Collie.

Wolf Creek and Boreas are now becoming adjusted to life without their brothers and sisters. They cried a lot the first night and moped around yesterday but they're enjoying the attention that is being given them. We all got to go for a ride the other night to the place where Human Daddy gets those boxes that contain that wonderfully, scrumptious stuff called 'Peetsa'. That smell is enough to make anyone forget their worries! Think I'll go catch up on some sleep. (And maybe dream about some 'Peetsa' ) It looks like Kenosha and Boreas are already doing that. Elvira
