Boreas has a name...

I know what you're thinking, "You already have a name - it's Boreas." But I'm talking about my registered name. The name that is on my AKC registration certificate. It is OUACHITA TSUL KALU .

You're probably thinking, "Where on Earth did that come from??". Lemme do some 'splaining.....

Human Mommy and Daddy use the word Ouachita at the beginning of all our names 'cause that's where we live - in the Ouachita Mountains. And it helps to identify all the Mals that they own. Ouachita is the French spelling of a Native American word - Washitah - that means good hunting ground. (they musta been talkin' bout all them skirrels that live in the trees)

Human Daddy is Cherokee and he has chosen Cherokee words/names for the remainder of our registered names. I am named after a legendary person in Cherokee mythology - Tsul Kalu. Tsul Kalu is "the Great Lord of the Game", and is frequently invoked in hunting rites and rituals. Tsul 'Kalu is also believed by some to be the Cherokee version of Sasquatch or Bigfoot. (I think they named me that because of my Big Feet!)

Dad's name is OUACHITA GOLA UNALII - Ouachita Winter Friend

Mom's name is OUACHITA ITSE UNATSI - Ouachita New Snow

I like my name - maybe I'll grow up to be a Great Hunter like Tsul Kalu...... Boreas

Friday's Tidbits

Boreas and Human Daddy recently did some fencing around Human Mommy's Herb Garden. Boreas had started using it and the flower bed a little further down as a steeplechase course. He loved to jump over the short fence and then run through the beds lickity-split.

So Human Daddy added another short section of fence to the top of the existing one to make it too tall for Boreas to jump over.

Then so everyone could see the fence (us and the cats) Human Daddy wove some orange tape through it.

Human Daddy had lots of 'help' while he was working. Human Mommy called them his 'Supervisors' .

Human Mommy is hoping that Boreas will forget about running through the beds by Spring. Which is just around the corner by the way! What you don't believe me?? Here's some pictures of flowers in bloom in Human Mommy's yard... Elvira

Friday Update

We recently received a letter and a couple of pictures from Loveland. We had been wondering how she was doing since the nasty ice storm that wreaked havoc in northern Arkansas and Kentucky also went through the area of Illinois where she lives. She and her Human Parents are okay. Loveland said that they weren't hit that hard by the storm but it was still nasty enough.

Loveland went on to say that her Human Mommy recently weighed her and measured her. She weighs almost 40 pounds and stands a little over 21 inches tall.

Loveland also said that she is currently enrolled in class at a local Community College. {WOW! Isn't that so COOL that one of the kids will have a degree??} But she said that it is very hard to concentrate in class - too many distractions! {She always was one to fidget .... But I'm sure she'll get used to everyone and the routine soon enough!} Elvira
